A lot of people and pundits alike are pounding the NHL for its weak-kneed approach to dealing with dirty head shots.

For the most part, the criticism is warranted. Before we lace into the Big Kahunas running the tavern known as the NHL, in fairness, they’re aware of the problem and are waiting for a report investigating hits to the head and concussions.

Ok. Enough of that. The bottom line is the NHL is showing no leadership on this issue. Heck, it’s a downright joke the way they hand out suspensions. Equally as culpable, is the NHLPLA  – you know, the “union” that’s supposed to have the players interest in mind? Yeah, they haven’t exactly shown any initiative either.

The latest person to step into the fray is Sidney Crosby who’s urging the NHL to once and for all take a stand. The face of the NHL; the darling of Canada, is also chipping in with his opinions.

If they can enforce high sticking for fear of eye injuries, surely they can come up with a feasible penalty for injuries to the brain I reckon.  Given what we now know about concussions it’s ludicrous the NHL is moving slowly to cut this nonsense out of the game.

Colin Campbell, the man who’s in charge of disciplinary issues, should send a strong message and lengthen the time of suspensions. Two games suspensions aren’t cutting it. More are needed.

He knows there’s too much at stake. At least, I hope he does.

Why wait before someone really loses their career or, heaven forbid, their life?

Meh.

The general managers are meeting in Florida. I’m not holding my breath.
